1.30pm: We meet at the Kergoz car park in Mellac. Armed with our smartphones, we test the route using the free Rando Bretagne Sud app.
From here, we turn back along the road and then turn left into a field. From here, it's hard to imagine that we're near a valley, as only trees are visible as far as the eye can see. And yet... After circling the field and returning to the road on our left, we turn onto a small track on our right.
And now for a change of scenery, with a descent through undergrowth for around 200m... until the banks of the Isole come into view. Following the riverbank on our left, we discover a wild, unspoilt site. A dragonfly passes close by, followed by a kingfisher... a haven of peace for the local fauna!
We walk upstream towards Moulin Blanc. Along the way, a bridge spans the Isole: the Pont de Pontegan bridge, which links the communes of Mellac and Tréméven. Nearby, the Pontégan mill is in ruins.
Continuing along the banks, you come to Moulin Blanc and its meadows. This 10-hectare estate boasts a wide variety of ecosystems. Information panels explain the different species of trees and birds. The aim of this site is to develop biodiversity. Biological inventories are carried out by botanists and ecologists. Wetlands are particularly closely monitored here.
After stopping to take some photos of the Moulin and this remarkable site, we headed back up towards the car park... with a steep climb ahead of us! On our left, a field is being used as an experiment for the various botanical inventories being carried out to find alternatives to the use of pesticides.
This loop is not very long (around 4 km) but offers a real change of scenery on the banks of the Isole and a chance to discover biodiversity and its conservation.
